After seeing that our opposition had lost all 3 of their previous games, Gaz decided he could make it this week. He loves a challenge does our skipper. With a keeper crisis it was left to AJ, injury included, to fill in between the sticks. Two of the three Jacksons string games together like Louis Saha. At least the other Jackson was there, in his regular centre back spot. The tougher Jackson some might say.
After a disappointing start last week, Archies shot out the blocks and hogged possession which created a few early chances. With the back four being marshalled by the cool, calm and tough Jackson, the midfield were able to press forward. A good pass by Ross to Gaz released the greedy striker and he sprung into the box only to be scythed down when bearing down on goal. PENALTY!!! If only the opposition knew our record, they wouldn’t have been so arsed. Up stepped Nath. MISS!!! The pot-bellied full-back must have been nearly as shocked by that miss as when his missus tried to serve him a salad! Awful pen. The only thing in danger of being hit with that was the linesman.
Not long after some good forward play, probably by Cliffy – Gaz has to check the Oxford English Dictionary for the definition of ‘pass’, released Warby into the box. Clearly panicking in such an advanced position the DVLA hating scruff could only sky it over the bar. I bet he couldn’t put one higher if he tried.
HT 0 – 0
AJ was virtually a spectator in the first half, only have to deal with a few long throws from a Rory Delap wanna be. But early in the second half the Archies portly left back couldn’t waddle fast enough and the Warriors right winger whipped in a delightful cross which was meant by an excellent header, destined for the top corner... out of no-where AJ flung himself towards the ball and tipped it over. Stunning save.
Enough was enough, Nath was off. Everyone had seen enough of his bumbling performance and he was replaced by the Cripple. With Cliffy slotting back into the wing and Warby to left back.
Not long after some good interplay between Cliffy and Warby provided Warby with a superb chance to get his first goal for the club, what did I say about he couldn’t get one higher? This one was closer to the International Space Station than the goal. Foot like a pitching wedge.
Jamey received the ball on the right hand side and carved open the Warriors with his pace once again. He fizzed in a cross shot which fell beautifully for Captain Gaz, wide! Clearly rusty from his week off, the ball dribbled miles wide.
Finally the breakthrough came. A long clearance was sliced by the Warriors centre back and the Cripple hobbled towards goal, calmly lofting if over the keeper. 1-0!
Minutes later it was 1-1. An angry hobbit on the Warrior right aimlessly lobbed a ball forward which caught out the Archies defence. The striker ran onto it and lofted it over AJ to level the game. 1-1
Highlight of the Match: Has to be Spud’s “header”. The only contact made was his face with the mud. The line loved it. Gaz wasn’t amused with the line. The miserable shit.
It was a good performance overall. Everyone worked hard and played well, especially “Tough” Jackson, Spud and Ross.
